1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE

ONE OWNER. NO ACCIDENTS. Purchased in DEC 1985 at Santa Ana Mazda. It’s ALWAYS been a So Cal car, never seen snow or salt. This is the Special Edition, and is the last year of this body style. Considered Classic by RX-7 Enthusiasts.

BEAUTIFUL AND HARD TO FIND RX-7 Special Edition. Clean specimen. A must-see in incredible condition. The car has the same fuel-injected 13B Rotary engine (1.3L displacement) that continued into the future RX-7’s and then RX-8’s, so you can still get most OEM engine parts!! An original-equipment RX-7 GSL-SE is a very rare find today.

It has been well looked-after during its life. This rare beauty of an RX-7 comes with the removable glass sunroof and matching black metal one with leather travel sleeve. BODY -The body is 100% straight, never been in an accident. The hood has a small ding.

1985 was the last year for the original, classic RX-7 body style and the upgraded GSL-SE option was only built in 1984-85. The GSL-SE option had some upgrades and options only available with this car that included the standard fuel injected 13B rotary engine (same engine size for all RX-7s after 1985 and also the RX-8), a revised front air dam, unique, larger alloy wheels and 14″ tires, larger 4-wheel disc brakes, limited-slip differential, and upgraded suspension.

This high rpm (7,000 red-line) model will put a smile on your face whether you’re driving the freeway or navigating winding roads. In 1985, the RX-7 GSL-SE was one of the fastest cars you could buy for a reasonable price. This car is guaranteed to get you plenty of looks and thumbs up. If you want a classic car that is fun to drive, holds the corner at high speeds, and gives you the feeling that you can do whatever you want, this car is for you. All glass is original (except the front windshield which was replaced due to a rock chip) and tinted, and in excellent shape including the detachable smoked glass moon roof. The headlights pop right up and go down quickly and at the same time. It’s hard to describe how clean this car is for a classic, but it is not perfect and has a few very minor imperfections. The car was painted about 10 years ago by Grove Auto Body. So only one paint job. I’ve kept it fully detailed ever since.

This RX-7 is an incredible find and in amazing over-all condition, so minor imperfections don’t for a second take away from its beauty and it gets constant compliments with its factory correct original crisp look and no-nonsense appearance. It’s a looker on the road.

Interior -100% Smoke Free cabin. New carpet (dark-grey/black) Seats are 100% original in near perfect condition. Waiting inside this little rocket’s cockpit is a great ride with the 100% original bucket seats always protected by seat covers. A few years back I added Wetokole neoprene seat covers (https://www.wetokole.com/) to finish the stealthy look. The original 5-speed manual shifter was replaced with a carbon fiber shifter. Original headliner with some minor aging. Inside overall it is all factory original, but some subtle elegant changes are noticeable to the purist. Nothing takes away from the overall aesthetics or elegance in the cabin.

REPLACED/UPGRADED TO NEW:
A. The center console
B. The Shift Boot Assembly
C. Stereo: removed original that had an EQ. (Orig. died) Replaced with a 6-disc changer but I won’t mess with that, since it’s a personal choice for the new owner for sure! There’s room to do a back up camera/monitor set up with Blue-Tooth for your iPhone Playlists if you get the correct chassis!
D. Painted the dash plastic professionally so it’s all black in the cabin, not the dirty gray, it enhances and compliments the interior.
E. Momo black leather steering wheel (smaller steering wheel – which makes much more sense for the car.
F. Momo Pedals (All three) – a brushed nickel metal look – very sexy industrial style.
G. Replaced the Front Windshield with a tinting at top of the glass. Replacement was due to a rock chip on the original glass.
H. Most rubber/trim on whole car has been replaced (OEM).
I. Replaced the tinted louvered plastic section between the tail lights.
J. The entire carpet kit is new and dark-charcoal black.
K. The stock radiator has been replaced by a more performance model. Coolant hoses, spark plug wires, etc of course have been replaced.
L. Replaced with new hood, replaced the old stock motorized antenna.
M. Original Mazda RX-7 floor mats – they do show some age.
N. Original Mazda RX-7 headlights.

MECHANICAL – Absolutely 100% Stock, no upgrades to motor…ever! A very clean and uncrowded engine compartment with all of the original emissions control equipment in place and it passes California clean air emissions standards. The legendary and dependable fuel injected rotary pulls strong with the unmistakable killer sound that only an RX-7 rotary can deliver.

The older the car, the harder it is to define the condition. Ask if you have additional questions.
