1993 Toyota Mark II Grande
We just got an awesome daily driver for someone looking for an out of the box car. The X90 is a superb chassis layout that is a full sized 4 door with near 50/50 weight distribution. For that reason this is one of the more popular drift cars in Japan. Subsequently finding a manual in the condition of this one is hard pressed. This 1993 only has 46K miles on it and it shows. The Super White (040) paint has been well maintained and mostly blemish free. There is a spot on the driver side door below the mirror that was dinged and covered with some touch up paint. Aside from the door ding the body is in great shape. All of the panels line up as they should and appear to be original. Fitted with the factory optional chin spoiler helps give these a more aggressive tone.
The interior has been kept just as clean, if not better than the exterior was. The cloth seats are surprisingly soft, Toyota didn’t use the traditional cloth this material is more akin to suede. The driver and passenger seats are in great shape, free of any tears or stains. The back seats are in even better condition, they appear to have hardly been used. The Grande came well appointed with automatic lights, power windows, power mirrors, folding mirrors, and automatic climate control with cold A/C. Since Japan loves tv’s this one is even fitted with the optional in dash, pop out, 5″ LCD paired to the audio system. The original radio and tape player function as they should along with the aux input so you can use a 3.5mm cord to your phone or ipod. The factory amber glass adds a nice touch visually both inside and out.
Powered by the 1G-FE which is a DOHC, two liter, straight six. This motor was mainly designed with fuel economy in mind. The straight six fires right up and idles nicely with no smoke or hesitation. Mated to a 5 speed manual makes this a blast for a daily driver. While this one is not the top performance model it would be an excellent candidate to swap in the 1JZX that was used in the Tourer V model. Those familiar with the X90 chassis know how hard it is to find such a clean, stock one these days. The transmission itself is very smooth and free of any grinding making it ideal for spirited driving. The clutch engages with ease and feels strong. The stock suspension is comfortable without feeling boaty at speed. For those after a unique car to take over daily duty or weekend cruising it’s hard to beat the X90.
